Abstract

It's Never Late in Redundancy Space is a 6-minute indie video game that attempts to discuss redundancy as a globally normalized space-time model that remains unquestioned in the light of acceleration and accumulation. Lost in the corridors of a data center, the player wanders around collecting mysterious stones in an endless loop accompanied by voice-overs and animations. Redundancy is a widely repeated formula that ensures the continued functioning of our cities, ecosystems and networks in the event of failures, by preemptively multiplying some or all parts of the system. It is also a political instrument that, under surveillance capitalism, has taken its latest spatial configuration in data centers. Does design have agency in the redundancy problem?
